Sydney
Good To Know!
*Sydney is very casual. Thinks shorts and flip flops. But some girls do
choose to dress up at night.
*The OPAL CARD is good to have for public transportation but not essential (they take apple pay too).
*Bus drivers do not announce stops so pay attention on the app!
*If you are GF, Vegan, DF, etc you will have NO problem navigating your diet here.
*Cars are on the opposite side of the road so look RIGHT!
*Tipping isn't really a thing here.
*A black coffee is called a long black and a coffee with milk is called a flat white.
*Restaurants close very early

Phone Info
There are two options that people do.
Some switch to T – Mobile. It works in every country and has a good international plan. We heard Verizon also works well using their International Plan.
Right after baggage claim at the airport there’s a Vodafone stand that we went to as soon as you land. Buy a prepaid sim card and put it right in your American phone so you keep all your phone settings, contacts, etc. but just get a new number. Make sure you call your provider before you leave the states and have them unlock your phone or else it won’t work.
Switch to Australian number. If you are going through TEAN they provide you with a free Optus card that gives you great service but you have to switch your sim card back when you travel.

Transportation Tips
Get the Opal App and download the Opal Card to use on all buses.
You can easily take the train to the city or to the airport!
Ferries are amazing to get to places like Manly Beach, Watsons Bay, Darling Harbor, Toranga Zoo, and Luna Park. Easy to use from Circular Quay- also just use Opal card
Can take Ubers everywhere, especially at night for going out. Really strict though and will NEVER squeeze an extra person so don’t even try just get an XL

TEAN
Some students go through this organization. Going through TEAN can be a bit more expensive but it comes with a lot of benefits like advisors to help with your schedule, orientation trip to the Great Barrier Reef, a SIM card for your phone. People seem to really like going through them.
